The Fight for Vera Fund were proud to welcome our patron, Sir William McAlpine, to the railway for a visit today. A man of high regard within the railway preservation world, we enjoyed a round trip on board the Great Western Observation Saloon, courtesy of the NYMR.
Prior to this we presented Sir William with one of our Limited Edition signed prints, and we had a stroll up to Grosmont MPD, where we showed him progress to date on the loco.
It was an honour to have Sir William and Lady Judy visit us. They both enjoyed their day and were inspired to find so many young people involved. We hope having his name associated with the appeal will make a difference.
Thanks to everyone who has helped make today so enjoyable. A special mention to the MPD for shunting the locomotive down to the running shed, Ian Foot for organising the visit and the Catering Department for their wonderful hospitality.
